A mother merganser leads her ducklings into what appears to be a precarious situation but, although new to rougher water, these ducks are already expert swimmers... I think it is important to note that the glowing translucency of the light in the deep rapid is what captured my attention and inspired this painting. My Website My Facebook Page
After a few months of studying this painting to figure out where and how to add some ducks, it finally hit me. Harlequin ducks resting on the rocks. Originally, I was kicking around the idea of hooded mergansers, but harlequins fit the habitat better as they nest on inland streams just like this each spring and summer. The brilliant markings of the male also add a nice accent to the painting.
A beautiful mountain bluebird perches on a tall bunch of sage brush. These brightly colored birds are found in and around the open mountainous areas that are associated with the high desert region of the western United States. My Website My Facebook Page
My passion, which started early in life, is creating paintings of wild animals in their natural habitat. For me the best part of being a professional artist is spending time in the field studying and observing birds and animals. We live in such an amazing world, I just want to soak in as much as possible and share it with others through my paintings.
