SOLDGreat blue herons are majestic, predatory birds that stand motionless waiting for their prey. In this case, the heron is more at rest as it's head is tucked as opposed to their erect posture when stalking. Herons are common throughout the United States and are common in Oregon. However, I saw this particular heron at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on Maryland's famed eastern shore. I spent five straight mornings at the refuge and got some fantastic reference of all kinds of birds from waterfowl to shorebirds and songbirds.
